MONONA TERRACE
Architect: Frank Lloyd Wright
This
beautiful structure is located on the shore of Lake Monona in downtown Madison.
I love how the building catches the light at certain times of the day. Even
without getting close or stepping inside, the structure looks ever so
ravishing. The glass façade on the South East side of the building overlooks
Lake Monona, and has a very rich Jade color, which makes it a lot more aesthetically
pleasing. The curves are very fitting, and contrast with the surrounding
structures, which are very rectangular. The interior was not designed by
Wright, but by his former apprentice, Anthony Puttnam. I believe he might have
tried his best to stay close to Wright’s design, but also incorporated his own
style.
Monona
Terrace is only two blocks away from the state capitol building, so it is
always easy to catch beautiful views such as this (picture above). I also found out that people could “Wright”
their own history by inscribing images on tiles on the roof. People could
request and pay for their inscription online, and have their messages reviewed
and permanently added to the tiles on and around the building. I would really
love to visit this building and have the added bonus of stamping my name on it
for $125!! I have included a link to the online shop.
