The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, originally built in 1930, enlisted Steve Holl to design an addition to the museum. In 2007, the Bloch Building was opened. The new addition did not in any way resemble the original as I would have expected. The original building is a very grand building with columns in the front, next to it now sits a glass box of sorts. Holl’s buildings while usually silver and glass might be somewhat plain in color naturally, the light that plays off the glass makes most of his buildings very eye catching and intriguing next to their traditional neighbors.
