The Ospedale degli Innocenti, also know as the Hospital of the Innocents, was Filippo Brunelleschi's first commissioned piece of architecture. He built this structure in many phases but the first phase was under the rule of Brunelleschi during 1416-1427. There are nine main arches that are each 8 meters high, an impressive feat during this time.
My initial reaction to this structure was not an amazing one. I do love the arches and the way the top of them are designed, however, the building in all doesn't satisfy my tastes. I felt that he could have used more colors and more exciting architectural features. The building itself is a very flat building and it would have been nice to see some type of height changes. This is not my favorite piece of Brunelleschi's work.
