Horn Blog 2
Blog 2 is for Gothic Hall, inside of Catlett Music Center here at the University of Oklahoma.
This is my favorite place on campus. Gothic Hall is a multi level foyer for the School of Music dominated by the towering pillars and brick encasing. It is my favorite because of the acoustical environment it creates. A clap made on the first floor will sound for 4 1/2 seconds. This is a lot of time for a clap! A cappella sounds beautiful or solo classical guitar in this echoing room. The best, however, is the organ which is seen at the end of the hall. This powerful machine can create a beautiful sound on its own, but the setting of Gothic Hall makes it a unique experience unlike any other organ sound. It's like getting goose bumps and having your senses overwhelmed by the power acoustics created by the design of this room.
As a treat, I've also included a link to my favorite organ piece: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnjE2TIYyTE
