This is a picture of my dad in front of his high school, Hibbing High School, In Hibbing Minnesota. Hibbing is a very small town that you have probably never heard of, but in its prime it accomplished many things. The grey hound bus was founded here and the biggest Iron Ore mine in the world is in Hibbing. As the Iron Ore mine grew they had to relocated the city 2 mile away so they could dig underneath the old city. Mining gave the town money to build great buildings like my dads high school, which is listed on the national register of historic places. It was built in 1920. Going on this tour really impacted me, because my dad always told stories about his town and were he grew up, but actually seeing it was a whole different story. It was also pretty cool seeing my dads name in the trophy cases.
Hibbing is no longer a thriving town like it used to be. There are so many beautiful museums in the town that reflect the amazing history that are struggling to stay open. This experience made me realize there are probably 1,000 of other small towns with amazing past that are starting to become forgotten, just like Hibbing. It was a humbling experience and I know my dad loved talking about the old glory days with me.
Here are some other picture I took during the tour.
Hall way ceilings in the high school
Pictures from their auditorium, the chandeliers now cost around 250,000. Made from glass from Belgium.
The library
There was also amazing statues and painting all around the school. Could you imagine learning in an environment like this?
