The New World Shopping Mall
After the New World Shopping Mall was abandoned in 1999, a massive fire broke out and destroyed the roof of the building. Monsoon rains later flooded the floors turning the mall into a spacious indoor pond. Shallow water inside the mall became a 1600 square feet breeding ground for mosquitoes and other insects. To control the insects, local residents released different species of fish in the water. Because the fish multiplied and images of the massive pond attracted many curious visitors, city officials had them removed for safety concerns.
