Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe
Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe was an architect and educator who was born in Aachen, Germany. In 1905, Rohe moved to Berlin and began his architectural career as an apprentice for an important modernist architect, Peter Behrens. It was also during his training in Berlin that he was recognized for his first architectural work, the Riehl House. Rohe was an influential architect who created buildings based on the principle of “less is more”. His contemporary style commonly included minimal structural details of all glass windows, framed with I-beam mullions. Rohe architectural style shaped many modern skyscrapers we see today. In Germany, not only did he gain recognitions for his innovative work, but he also influenced changes in the architectural education.
