When I first took a look at the Rachofsky house, I instantly
knew it was designed by Richard Meier. The complete white contemporary look is
his signature style. It looks as though it came straight from the future, so
it’s a little surprising that it was built in 1996. If someone were to tell me
it was just recently built, I would probably take their word for it. With this
house in particular it was designed for a specific family, so Meier needed to
highlight the specific elements the family wanted, all while adding his own
touch. They were collectors of art and lovers of the outdoors, so he was able
to come up with a design that would be able to showcase all the artwork, while
also bringing the feel of the outdoors in to the house. Its white walls and
glass framing is suppose to reflect the aspect of being both inside and outside
as you walk from room to room. I personally think it is a very cool building
architecturally with the idea of being inside and outside because I’m a big
nature guy, so it’s important to me to be able to feel the naturalness of my
surroundings.
