The architect I was assigned to
research was Richard Meier, who is an American abstract artist and architect.
He is known for his use of the color white and different geometric shapes in
all of his projects. One in particular stood out to me the most, which would be
the Jubilee Church in Rome, Italy. As you can see in the picture, geometric
shape and the color white are really the only prominent features that the
outside sees. With such modern features it is hard to believe that such a
church even exists in Italy considering all their historic architecture
regarding the church. The inside still resembles a typical church, just instead
of dark woods and stained glass. It has solid white surroundings and a clear
glass roof that allows for the whole atrium to be lit by natural light. I
personally find the church to be a pretty cool piece of artwork, however, I
could definitely see where someone might find it unappealing. When it comes to
such harsh changes in design away from the original it can be hard to sell the
idea to the whole mass, but I feel that Meier does a nice job at trying to show
traces of the original ideas of the church in his design.
