Hue Citadel

This is one of the remaining buildings of the Hue Citadel which I had the opportunity to visit during my last summer vacation. During my visit, I was able to learn that this was built in the 17th Century by Emperor Gia Long of the Nguyen Dynasty. It was designed to replicate the Forbidden City in Beijing, China and built in the style of the French architect Sebastian De Vauban. The city was the nation’s capital until 1945 and much of its architecture was destroyed and neglected since the Vietnam war. Today, the city has been declared a UNESCO site. Unfortunately, I have no royal ties to the emperor, but it was a good visit.
