Washington Dulles International Airport at Dusk.jpg

The Washington Dulles International Airport has a purpose that truly showcases Eero Saarinen's catenary arch style. With its vast concrete roof supported by angled pillars and filled in by enormous walls of glass, the roof projects the illusion of imminent flight. The grand space within serves as an open and welcoming area, objectifying the abstract ideas of exploration, travel, and adventure. In my opinion, there is no finer merging of architectural style and structural purpose in the world. Saarinen's design style is perfectly suited to represent an airport, a modern symbol of hope, exploration, globalization, and human expansion and greatness.
