Caillouette blog-9 Pelli, Cesar National Museum of Art

National Museum of Art, Osaka Japan

This museum designed by Cesar Pelli is beautiful in its simplicity. When I first saw it I thought it looked like a dragonfly or some sort of winged insect. I was wrong. Pelli said it was designed to look like reeds waving in the wind. The actual museum is predominantly underground. If the design is supposed to resemble reeds waving in the wind it makes me think the majority of the museum being underground makes since. I think of a root system that is larger and more important than the prettiness above, just like a reel reed.
