Bauhaus School and Illinois Institute of Technology
Although he did not have formal college training, he was able to achieve wide recognitions and reputations in the field of architectural. From 1930-1933, he was the third and last director of Bauhaus School of Design in Germany before it was closed. After the Bauhaus school was shut down by the Nazi, Mies left Germany to United States where he opened an architectural practice in Chicago. In 1938, he worked as a director for the Armour Institute of Technology in Chicago, Illinois. At the Illinois school, he transformed traditional learning program into a newly developed architectural curriculum inspired by the Bauhaus courses. The Armour Institute of Technology became the leading training school for architecture.
