Great Zimbabwe is a walled fortress in central Zimbabwe that was constructed 11th-15th centuries. Having no mortar, the walls and towers are 9-22 meters high and about one meter thick. Most of what remains today is the Great Enclosure, which was probably for a king's personal use. Copper and iron tools and weapons were found at the site, as well as jewelry and statuary. Pottery and coins from China and Arabia were found there, suggesting Great Zimbabwe was involved in an extensive trading network.
