Galliart - Blog 7
Charles Rennie Mackintosh designed the "House for an Art Lover" in 1901, and it was completed in 1996. The exterior mixes geometric shapes, while the interior uses organic forms and floral patterns. The design places 19th century styles next to 20th century ones, and that juxtaposition is meant to encourage consideration of change. The house is mostly white, which conveys a feeling of tabula rasa, that the art can still alter. The building contains a variety of rooms, each designed for an artistic purpose. This reflects Mackintosh's desire to create buildings that were both functional and aesthetic. The House for an Art Lover also shows Mackintosh's tendency to mix geometric and organic shapes.
