Meacham - Blog 2

Since we talked about Greek and Roman architecture yesterday in class I thought it would be appropriate for me to talk about a certain piece of Greek architecture that I've come across personally. This summer when I visited Greece with my family I finally got to see the Parthenon, after learning about it year after year in school. It is one of the best preserved pieces of ancient Greek architecture that still remains. I have always heard about this massive spectacle, but seeing it in person gives a total different perspective. The huge 40 foot doric columns are just that much more bigger when you are standing next to them in person. It gives you a personal respect for all the people that were able to accomplish a feat that most couldn't during that time. All the ruins in the surrounding area show how skilled and able the ancient Greek people used to be at creating innovative architecture that would propel them to become the world power they are known to have been.
